Olympic Games virtual production with Vanilla System
For the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, Eurosport built a slate of programmes around a multi-camera virtual production setup, a broadcast-first look, three framings, live on air across the duration of the Games.
We supplied the engineering side of the operation. Three Vanilla System nodes, one per camera, ran the real-time 3D composition for each shot. The full chain operated in 4K at the cameras, with the broadcast output in Full HD. Chroma keying, the process that replaces the green with the digital background, was performed at the 4K stage so the matte stayed clean.
On site our team ran the rig end to end: generating the 3D content, operating the Vanilla System nodes, supervising the tracking and the live composition. The three composited outputs went into Eurosport's gallery as isolated feeds; from there, their director handled the final on-air switching.
